Reading a chip-enabled citizen ID card

The chip-based citizen ID card is a technology expected to drive digital transformation forward. One significant application is verifying a person using facial biometrics. The card already stores a high-resolution reference photograph, which can be used as a reference image for facial verification.

Above is a video of us reading information from the card, including the face and other details. Combined with deep-learning face recognition, this opens up many useful applications, such as eKYC for banks and cashless treatment at hospitals.
